About Us
Horovel is the name given to the folk songs sung by the villagers in Anatolia and the Caucasus as they prepare their daily work in the fields. Each region had its own songs, focusing on themes such as farmers calling their animals to work or women hitting stones with pestles.
We established Horovel Films in Istanbul in August 2021 to produce creative documentary films.
We want to bring together the values produced by the universe with an inclusive perspective and an artistic language effort, without being caught in the discriminatory and marginalizing harsh winds of the age we live in.
Our first ongoing project, Our Seeds (wt), was developed in the IDFA Project Space and Close-Up Documentary Development Program, supported by IDFA Bertha Classic Fund, Sundance Institute, Redford Grant Center and MFG Baden-Württemberg Film Fund.
Horovel Films is also the co-producer of the projects My Name is Happy (Documentary Feature by Nick Read, Ayşe Toprak, 2022) and After 30 Minutes (Fiction Short by Hasan Ali Kılıçgün, 2024).
